In a post just a few of days ago, I talked about how I was having trouble with the idea of tithing 10% of my income. I’ve always felt that it was something I should be doing, and have done in the past, but I also don’t feel that it’s a very responsible thing to do as I get back on my feet financially (there’s a lot of financial wreckage out there).

Steve Pavlina posted a comment on the article, with a link back to an article on his own site (Tithing) that did help to clear things up for me, so I wanted to link it out here instead of just in the comments.

One thing I really liked about the article was the idea that giving and receiving are part of the same thing. That’s one of the many ideas that I’d forgotten about. Or maybe not forgotten about, but had stuffed deep down into my mind as I jumped into a frenzy of grab what I can while the grabbin’s good.

Another part of it that touched me was when he talks about “creating a life that is tithe worthy.” What better goal could a person have?

Thanks, Steve. In my opinion, the life you are creating has become tithe worthy.

And my own decision on the matter?

I’m dropping the 10% idea for myself. I will give money when I can, when I feel moved to do so.

I will give of myself as much as possible.

I will receive for myself as much as possible.

And that is good enough for today.
