So, Tuesday the 14th is my quit date for smoking.

For any of you who know me, it’s about the 5th time I’ve tried this year alone.

But that’s OK. If I quit quitting, I will never, ever be a non smoker. So at the very least, I have these short bursts of health before I pick up the cancer sticks again.

What am I going to do different this time?

    • I’m quitting on one of my days off from my day job. The last two times I’ve quit, I picked up while driving home after an 8 hour shift.
    • On Monday night, I’m going to get rid of every smoking trigger I can possibly think of. That’s just one of those suggestions that I never thought was important. I never cleaned out my ashtrays, threw away my lighters, or cleaned up my car. Other people might have to do that, but not ME!
    • I’m going to use the telephone if the urge really hits me hard. That was one of the things that really saved my ass in AA - being able to call someone just to say “You know what, I’ve got the urge”, and letting them talk me down off of the ledge.

I suppose that what I’m saying is that this time I’m actually going to take the suggestions of people who have done it before. Novel approach, huh? ;)

    Have a fantastic day!

  1. “Quitting smoking is easy, I’ve tried it lots of times.” - Mark Twain

The secret to quitting smoking and making it stick is truly wanting to quit. If there are any doubts, you will, indeed, fail. Telling everyone is a great step, however, are you truly ready to quit? Sure there may be some big motivating factors, but if you aren’t ready, it just isn’t going to happen.

  2. That’s a great quote, and so true. This is the last time for me, though. I am ready, I am willing, and I am able!
