21 Success Suggestions

I just read an excellent article on Out of Bounds called 21 Suggestions for Success. It was especially interesting testing myself on each one and honestly evaluating how I stacked up. And I really took Joi’s suggestion to heart about using each as a topic for a blog post. What better stuff could I write about?

One of the funniest things that came to mind about the list was number 4: Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know. It’s funny because I tend to think of myself as positive and enthusiastic, but my wife (and I nailed number 1, by the way) sure has a different view.

The problem is that she’s right (as usual).

One of my biggest challenges is getting out of negative thinking and focusing on possible problems with things and moving into a positive space where I focus on solutions. There has been definite improvement, but I have to admit that most of the time I tend to fall into the negative “What Ifs”.

Something that really has helped with that came from the book Spiritual Economics: The Principles and Process of True Prosperity by Eric Butterworth. In it he talks about how our thoughts create our world, so by envisioning negative experiences or outcomes, we are actually creating those outcomes. His suggestion to combat this is to ask ourselves if we really want what we are picturing. If not, immediately switch your thinking to a positive note, and let the Universe know that you were mistaken, never mind, no thank you, and here’s what I want instead.

I haven’t thought about that in a while. I’m grateful that it came up into my consciousness.
