Burning Bridges

I started (re)reading Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich last night.
In the chapter on Desire, the author tells a story about a warrior who, after sailing to an island to conquer it and offloading his men from the boats, had the boats burned so that their only two options were win or die.
In the past, I interpreted that as “quit your job NOW and do what you love to do.”
Bad interpretation. Very bad interpretation.
I was burning my boats while I was still on them!
It’s very important that, in our drive for success, we stay centered, and use common sense.
My current job is my major source of funding for my dreams at the moment. I will not cut off one of the channels that God has opened for me. I’ll know when it’s time for it to close.
Just a little bit of experience from someone who, in the past, set the fires too soon.

I think you have an excellent book in your hands. In my opinion, this is the best book ever written for self improvement. As a matter of fact, I have this book next to my computer for ready reference.
I agree about not burning your ships while you’re still on board. Burn them after you have disembared and are on the beach on your way to your future.
Good post,
Omar.-

Thanks for the comment, Omar! It’s really a fascinating read. I just wish that I had put it all into practice the first few times through!
