Straight Lines
Posted on April 02nd, 2006 in Uncategorized
One thing that I’m going to have to accept about life is that it doesn’t run in a straight line. Nothing is ever going to go from point A to point B perfectly.
At least from my own limited human perspective it isn’t. They say that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, but I don’t always see the straightest line there is.
Here’s an example: right now, my wife and I need a new place to live. The current place we are in is too small and doesn’t have many of the things that a normal dwelling would have (like a kitchen!).
So what are the obstacles to us moving?
- Because of the wreckage of our past, our credit sucks, so it’s really difficult finding someone who is willing to rent to us.
- Things are already tight financially, so it’s going to be difficult coming up with a security deposit even when we do find a place.
- We actually need to find a place that will take 3 of us, since her son is coming back from college in May, and the place he was going to stay has fallen through.
For all of those things, my first reaction is “We Need Cash!” But that’s not really true.
A straight line answer is that we need a place to live with at least two bedrooms.
That’s it. And if I can accept that God knows better than I do what the shortest distance between where I am now and where I want to be is, and I accept what happens to me each day as something that will move me in that direction, I think I’ll be OK.
So instead of focusing on the means to the end, I’m going to focus on the end itself. (I first learned about that one from the Wealth Beyond Reason program.)
And stay focused on it. One of my struggles is that I tend to jump around quite a bit. One day I’m focused on this, the next day I’m focused on that. One day I’m a Buddhist, the next a Religious Scientist, the next an atheist. One day I want to make a million dollars on the Internet, the next day I want to be a monk, and the next just another blue collar worker.
Just choose!

I have having a debate just yesterday with someone in terms of whether it’s better to:
A) Put your life in the hands of God.
B) Find your own path through conscious choice and free will.
Eventually we came to the conclusion that it’s a matter of personal choice with respect to belief systems and so what may work for some, may not work for another.
Good luck with your challenge though, it will be good to see how things pan out!

*apologies, that was supposed to be; “I was having a debate”

Thanks for the comment and encouragement, Amit. The amazing thing is, I know that things will pan out just fine. Probably better than I could have imagined, actually. I actually know that now, whereas in the past when I felt like this, I just thought it was all over.

Things will turn out just as you sincerely & faithfully imagine they will.

Yes, they will.
I just need to watch out for that “negative imagination” stuff!
