I just came across an entry on Gary Vurnum’s blog that really struck a chord with me, called How To React To Your ‘Off-Days’… what follows actually started as a comment to his blog, but I figured it got long enough that I should just post it here.

I really needed to read that today.

It was getting ready to turn into one of those days, but now that I reflect back on it, it was actually pretty productive.

It’s funny how our perception can be twisted. There were a couple of things that I didn’t do today that I was committed to doing. No real reason except that “I didn’t feel like it.”

Yup, back to that being ruled by my feelings instead of my decisions.

So I had decided that the whole day was now worthless. Never mind that I put in a really productive 8 hours at the day job. Never mind that I was able to get back on track and take care of at least a couple of these things.

And never mind that just a couple of years ago, getting done what I did manage to accomplish today would have been unthinkable.

Anyway, Gary’s post suggests letting ourselves have these king of days. If we do that, then they are less likely to turn into two days, three days, a week, a month…

So I hereby publicly state:

It’s OK that I wasn’t able to do everything I planned today.

I’ll get done what I can before going to bed tonight… and that will be enough.
