Have you had one of those moments where something finally clicks for you, and a whole bunch of different thoughts that never quite worked together before finally come together?

I just had one. I’m still having it as I write.

After reading Steve Pavlina’s article on the Law of Attraction, I’ve finally been able to put together two concepts in my mind that I wasn’t quite able to accept. Separate, they were almost there… but together they work perfectly.

In the article, Steve writes about the theory that we are the only consciousness, that we create 100% of everything that happens in our lives. That’s something that I’ve studied in the past, and although I wanted to accept it because of the immense sense of power that it brings, I rationally just couldn’t. I couldn’t accept that all of the billions of people out there, all of the worlds events, were merely marionettes on the strings of my mind.

If that were true, then I would have license to do to you whatever I wanted. Hey, you’re just a projection of my own consciousness, right?

But after reading the article, I thought of something else. Unity. Oneness.

The idea that we are not separate from one another.

If that is true, then I still have license to do what I want to do to you… but I’m also doing it to myself.

This may have been obvious to other students of metaphysics, the Law of Attraction, etc…

But I think I just finally got something that I’ve been missing for quite some time.

Oh why oh why did I manifest this slow brain of mine??? :)

  1. Lyman,

I know exactly what you mean about things finally “clicking” for you, but that’s been my almost constant experience for the past day and a half. I’ll give my own perspective on the Law of Attraction, in the hopes that it will continue to fuel your feeling of discovery:

Suppose there are many consciousnesses, and generally one assigned to each body. We are still entirely responsible for our own experience because our thoughts attract into our lives the consciousnesses and circumstances that exactly match our vibrational level. In other words, our entire experience is composed of things and souls attracted into it by and influenced by our vibrational state. In this model, if you harm another, you are harming a thing you chose to attract; in some sense you are rejecting your mind when you do! Then the way to change your reality is to simply allow the current condition that you don’t want but focus your desire and thought on the new condition that you do want–and then while being allowing of the old condition (because it’s something you DID want before), you allow it to drift out of your reality and attract the new which you now want.

This idea comes from my reconciling Steve’s model of reality and the (very similar) model given by Abraham-Hicks’s “Introduction to Abraham”. I believe both are correct if interpreted correctly.

Let me know what you think! I’m curious and open to new ideas, and you seem to also have a keen interest in really understanding subjective reality and the Law of Attraction.

  2. Hi David,

Thanks for the insightful comment. I’ve been meaning to take a deeper look at the Abraham-Hicks material for quite some time now… your comment may have been the tipping point that gets me to take action on that “I’ll do it someday” mentality. I’ve resisted it for a long time because of my preconceived notions on the whole channeling thing, but after seeing Esther Hicks in The Secret, the recommendation in Bob Doyle’s Wealth Beyond Reason (which I’m currently working on), and now your comment… maybe the Universe (or my own consciousness?) is trying to tell me something.

    I appreciate your insights!

  3. Until a few days ago, Lyman, I was in a similar position to you, resisting getting into the Abraham-Hicks work. Then I bought “Ask and it is Given” because it had been recommended by so many people I respect - including Steve Pavlina among others.

The book is truly amazing. The first half of the book talks “The Law of Attraction” to death. It goes over and over the same ground but somehow fails (IMO) to be boring. In fact, the consequences of the Law of Attraction being true are so great that to read and read and read is a pleasure. And to read and read and read about it means you’re thinking and thinking and thinking about it. And that thinking (by the Law of Attraction itself!!!) will help create a personal belief in the Law.

The second part of the book contains 22 processes which are mostly imaginative meditations or exercises. I’ve not read all of these yet, but most I’ve read I’ve begun doing and have enjoyed . . .

  4. Hi Paul,

After the previous comment, I went ahead and logged into my local library’s website and put that very book on hold (all the copies are out, and I’m fourth in line). Now I’m thinking that I’m just going to hit the local Barnes and Noble when they open this morning. The money I spend on it will just be coming right back to me anyway. :)

    Thanks for the comment!

  5. Hi Lyman,

Just came here through Steve Pavlina’s blog. Great to see other people discussing this stuff - with comments off in Steve’s blog, it can feel like one is the only person reading it!

I listened to the Abraham Hicks intro mp3s on their site a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it. I subsequently bought their main two books. ‘Ask and its Given’ was excellent. Thoroughly recommend it. I’m normally not a fan of exercises but the 22 exercises at the back all made complete sense to me given the basis of the book.

    Anyway enjoy the book!

    Thomas

  6. Hi Thomas,

It is good being able to have people to talk to this about; I’m glad that this post (and the trackback from Steve’s site) have provided that! :)

I went to the local Barnes and Noble yesterday to pick up “Ask and it is Given”, but they were out of stock. The person I spoke to about it made the comment that there had been a “run on that one.” So there are plenty of others picking it up.

(I was going to make a southern California crack… but I’ll leave it be.)

    Thanks for the comment!

  7. On the ‘run’ - its incredible this stuff is getting out to so many people. I mean, what is in that book, and what Steve writes about are pretty far out by most measures.

But its so powerful I think. The idea that your reality, your beliefs are justs thoughts you had that you dwelt upon and invested in emotionally. And that if you deliberately choose the thoughts you invest in, you can deliberately sculpt your reality.

On the book, I’m sure it will arrive at the perfect time :P

  8. I agree, Thomas… it is great that it’s getting out there. All great ideas have been far out (What? The earth revolves around the Sun? Preposterous!) :)

I also agree, that the book will arrive exactly when it is supposed to.

    I appreciate the conversation!

  9. Hey Lyman, If I may suggest, I brought the book but I also brought the Audio book CD’s. It’s great for listening in the background while you’re driving or doing anything of like! (I’ve so far listened to it 3 times and everytime I do I learn something new!)

    I hope you enjoy! :)

    Amit

  10. You manifested it so you could overcome it. ^_^

  11. Hey there Amit,

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll definitly look into those. Audios are great for those long rides in the car.

  12. Hi Derek,

That’s a great way to look at it :)

  13. I got here from Steve’s site too. I’ve seen the secret and thought that Ester Hicks was the most interesting speaker on it (I felt some kind of weird energy when she spoke) and have downloaded the MP3s at a friend’s recommendation. They sit in a folder on my desktop, must listen to them v. soon… Also the same friend has the whole set of CDs and will lend them to me. I too find the channelling thing a bit weird but have been doing intention manifestation for quite a while now and it works for me - more and more every day; so I’m sure the Abraham-Hicks stuff is well worth a good listen to.

  14. Hi Jake,

Thanks for the visit and the comment. I actually had downloaded the intro mp3’s from the Abraham-Hicks site over a year ago, and remember really thinking that the information was excellent. Then the prejudice about the channeling got in my way again…

It’s also interesting that you mention Ester Hicks in The Secret; I also thought she was one of the most compelling participants. I loved the way she described the loop that we get into when we focus on what’s going on outside of us, rather than choosing to change it by shifting our thinking to what we want.

And BTW… I got the book today! :)

Thanks again for visiting and commenting!

  15. you are welcome. Hope you enjoy the book and happy manifesting!

  16. [...] Another thing that struck me about the book is the idea presented up front that “anything worth having is worth working for!” (a quote attributed to Andrew Carnegie in the dedication). That’s something that you don’t see much anymore. Readers of this blog know that I’m a big fan of the Law of Attraction, but I think that people get a little sidetracked when it comes to the Law. They think it means the equivalent of just focus on what you want and it will fall into your lap. Now, that may be true of highly evolved spiritual beings such as Jesus, Krishna, and Buddha… but it’s never worked very well for Lyman. Maybe just a few thousand more lifetimes. For those of us who haven’t gotten there yet, we do need to take some action (which is the definition of work that I’m using here, not the drudging 9 to 5 definition of it) toward the achievement of our goals.
