I Am That

One of my favorite books on creating wealth using the principle of the Law of Attraction is David Cameron’s “A Happy Pocket Full of Money.” (aff) It’s been a few months since I first read it, but there is one principle, one phrase which has stuck with me, and continues to pop up in my daily life. And it really seems to gel with the ideas of ho’oponopono and subjective reality.

The phrase is simply: “I am that.”

It is David’s suggestion that whenever we see something “outside” of ourselves that we don’t want, the first thing we need to do is acknowledge that we have created (or manifested… pick your poison) it. Even if we are simply observing something, like a car accident that we didn’t have anything to do with, or when we are unjustly treated badly, simply saying (or thinking) the phrase “I am that” allows our subconscious minds to acknowledge that we have created what is going on.

It’s interesting that in my last post I talked about allowing these ideas to depress us and figure “what’s the use” when confronting the issues that just don’t seem to want to budge, or those things which we don’t want, yet continue to create over, and over, and over… I realized something.

When I’m in that mode, the furthest thing from my mind is my own responsibility for things. What I’m really doing is giving up my own power, saying “Universe, I just can’t deal with this.” which has the implication that “I don’t have the power to deal with it.” While this may be true on one level (the little ‘i’, my ego, my sense of separateness cannot deal with it), on another level I am abdicating the power that I do have when I recognize my oneness with all things.

Because if I am that, then I can change that. And I can learn how not to create that again in the future.

This really is a long road. I figure that at thirty six years old, I’ve got quite a few of patterns of thought that need to be changed. And that’s good! As an eternal being, what else do I have to spend all this time on. :)

So today I will remember, as often as possible, that I Am That.

  1. Now this is a cool concept! As I was reading it I got excited and then thought, “OK, I am THIS! This is a cool guy, who I am totally proud of, and always was, but now he is sharing this information, which is basically telling me that I am him, ..or at least I am a part of this cool thing he is telling me.” Now, since I am one of those people who is hyper vigilant about viewing the events in my life as positive, the added caveat of “I am THAT” is the cherry on the sundae, and I am loving this news. :) And you for sharing it.

  3. Lyman, it’s true that we can manifest (my preference) what we are. The key is using the mind set that “I am” rather than “I’d like to be”. We can wish anything for ourselves, but we must act on those wishes before they can come close to reality. Thanks for a great post.
