Yesterday morning, I was thinking about some of my frustrations with the Law of Attraction, and getting pretty close to deciding that I had been fooled again by all of the hype… or maybe it was yet another idea that I just couldn’t get.
So I decided to try something. One of the suggestions that I’ve read (but never really practiced) was to start small. Start focusing on something that you want, but that you can remain detached from. Choose something that won’t have all of the negativity and resistence that “Oh, JEEZ, I’ve gotta get these bills paid, so I need to come up with some money now or I’m SCREWED!” will have. That kind of thought and emotion just creates more “gotta get these bills paid”, not the bills being paid.
I chose an iPod. I’ve wanted one for a while, but it isn’t a huge dream that I have. It’s bigger than a cup of coffee or a hot fudge sundae… I can’t just walk out to my kitchen and make an iPod, and with my temporary cash flow problem, I also can’t just drive out to Best Buy and pick one up.
So I put my intention out to the Universe. “I now choose to have an iPod.” I focused on it for a few minutes, thought about how great it would be to have, got grateful for it… then I let it go.
I figured that it was going to be at least a few weeks before it came to me.
I’m glad I didn’t focus on that thought for very long.
Fast forward about 10 hours. My wife and I are laying in bed talking. For whatever reason, I mentioned to her that I’d really like an iPod. I don’t remember ever telling her this before. She has a Mini, and uses it mainly when she works out.
“Do you want mine?” she asks.
“Huh?” I’m a little dumbfounded… and an amazing feeling of “Holy Guacamole!” comes over me.
“Sure, I’m not using it that often, and I was going to pick up a new one when my student loan check comes in.”
Whoa…
It sure was nice listening to Joe Vitale’s Attractor Factor while I was walking the dog this morning.
So let’s review:
1) Put it out there.
2) Focus on how you will feel when you get it.
3) Get grateful.
4) Let it go.
5) Take inspired action when prompted.
6) Accept it when it comes to you.
For me, I’m good on the first 3… it’s those second three that, up until now, I’ve had difficulty with.
But now I know it’s possible.

I think that it’s also important to record these victories. When I started to fall into a doubting mindset this morning, I wasn’t focusing on all of the times that I’ve been able to use the law for my own benefit. Considering where I was just a year ago… things are pretty darn amazing. But it’s so easy to forget…

I’ve been hearing a lot about this law of attraction. I think I’m gonna try it out.
Sania… that’s great!
There are a ton of LOA resources out on the ‘net right now.
The most popular resource right now, and a great introduction to the law, is the movie “The Secret”. You can check out the first 20 minutes of it on Google Video:

The main website for the movie is http://thesecret.tv/

Enjoy!
Lyman,
Now you can listen to the sounds of your success whenever you want to as a reminder that the whole thing works!
Congr….ummm, I started to write congratulations, but then I thought of how silly it is to congratulate someone on proving that a Law works.
You know, like patting someone on the back when they trip over their own two feet and thus prove that gravity works…
LOL Aaron! “Hey, congratulations for falling off that cliff… FINALLY! It took you long enough to get to the edge!”
Thanks!
Are you going to do the 30-day challenge at Andy Wibbel’s blog? I believe I first read about it here. I’m not totally sure how I feel about the blog yet, but I’m going to follow along with the challenge.
I decided to start blogging again at Thought Renewal a few weeks ago and to get the juices going reposted one of my first blog entries about Vitale’s book, The Attractor Factor. Here are his 5 steps:
1. Know what you don’t want.
2. Select what you do want.
3. Clear all negative or limiting beliefs.
4. Feel what it would be like to have, do, or be what you want.
5. Let go as you act on your intuitive impulses, and allow the results to manifest. (p. 176)
Although he’s not coming from a biblical foundation (which is what I’m attempting to blog about – the theology of self-help!), I actually like his process for a daily goal setting exercise.

I’m still planning on it, lornadoone. I just won’t be able to listen to the call live, so I’m hoping that the recording gets posted quickly. It’ll be interesting to hear what he (and others) have to say.
And on a completely unrelated note, this is a cool picture!

Thanks for sharing that, Lyn. It’s interesting that the first thing that I transfered to the iPod was the unabridged audio version of “The Attractor Factor”, which I’d just downloaded and started listening to… hmmm…
Now, this approach sounds a bit more “feasible.” In other words, it’s a bit like prayer to me.
In my mind, KWiz, it is prayer. It’s a conscious communication with whatever is out there. And I think a big part of it was the gratitude before hand.
Earlier today, I was working through a lesson in Rebecca Fine’s Science of Getting Rich for Practical Geniuses Course in which she talked about how Jesus Christ would say “Thank you, Father” before performing a miracle. He didn’t say thank you after the miracle was performed, but before.
Thank you for the comment!
That’s a picture of my gratitude journal. I’ve been keeping it for about three weeks now.
