The Personal Development Carnival - July 8, 2007

If you're new here, you may want to get free updates via email or RSS. Thanks for visiting!

Welcome to the July 8, 2007 edition of The Personal Development Carnival.

I’m trying a little something different with the formating of this edition. Instead of trying to mix my comments in with the submissions, I’ve added it to the end of each in text that looks like this.

Debra Moorhead presents How to Overcome the Biggest Obstacle to Your Success posted at Debra Moorhead.com. Not only does she point out the obstacle, but she shows how to turn it into an asset. Good stuff.

Karen Lynch presents Un-Creating Realities posted at Live The Power. If you created it (and you did), you can uncreate it. Karen shows us how in this excellent post.

Craig Harper presents The Law of Attraction should be renamed The Law of Distraction posted at Renovate your life with Craig, saying, “I personally think the LOA should be re-named the Law of Distraction (as the title of my article suggests) as it (in my opinion) actually distracts people from change principles which actually work.” A thought provoking article that will (hopefully) make you do some real thinking about your own methods of goal achievement and personal development. Is the philosophy you’ve adopted really working for you?

Hueina Su presents The Little Engine That Should posted at Intensive Care for the Nurturer’s Soul, saying, “Many moms I’ve worked with remind me of the beloved children’s book “The Little Engine That Could”, only they are singing a slightly different tune. It goes like this, “I think I should, I think I should…..” So, what can you do to create a life of your choice without the shoulds and guilt?” Not only does this post answer that question, it also answers a question that I’ve always had about what I would call “good shoulds and shouldn’ts”, like “I should take care of my family” and “I shouldn’t stand in front of moving buses.” Thanks, Hueina!

Gleb Reys presents 5 Ways To Become An Inspiration To Others posted at Personal Development Ideas Blog. If inspiring others inspires you, this is a must read post. It’s telling that 4 out of the 5 points have nothing to do with others… they are all about you becoming a better you.

D.M. Cook presents Two Words to Overcome Sadness, Anger, Loneliness and Fear posted at Evolation. Two words that it took me a long long time to allow myself to follow.

Moses E. Miles III presents 4 Questions for Your Life posted at Three Sticks, saying, “4 essential questions that will determine the quality and outcome of your life”. This one brings up an essential part of self-development… just trying to change the behavior without looking at and changing what’s behind it doesn’t work.

Jack Yoest presents How to Manage a Sales Call posted at Yoest.com, saying, “There is no greater challenge than for the manager-mentor to keep his mouth shut — during a sales call. Or may be anytime. Especially for Your Business Blogger…” Excellent advice, not only for people in sales, but in any mentor relationship.

Tupelo Kenyon presents Meaningful Spiritual Relationships – Namaste Matters posted at Tupelo Kenyon, saying, “Celebrate life with this insight on how to take your personal relationships to a whole new level.” A beautiful reminder of who we really are, and ways to apply that knowledge to our interactions with others.

Charles H. Green presents Lie Detection and a Truthful Society posted at Trust Matters, saying, “What would it mean to live in a world without lies and what does that tell us about how we live our own lives now?” It’s a fascinating question, and this article does a good job of exploring both the possibilities and the consequences.

The Happy Rock presents Take A Break And Give Yourself Credit posted at The Happy Rock. A great reminder of the perspective and rewards that backing off a bit and reminding ourselves of our successes can bring.

SpiKe presents How To Gain Perspective posted at Organize IT. Some great techniques for moving upward and onward after failure.

Steve Pavlina presents Making Time for the Important posted at Steve Pavlina’s Personal Development Blog. So often we sacrifice the important for the sake of the urgent. This article will show you how to stop doing that, and gives some great reasons why you should do the important first.

David presents Face Your Fears for Success posted at Worldwide Success. This article describes an interesting method of facing your fear: bringing yourself to the “freakout point.”

Johan Idstam presents A little bit of Kaizen in life posted at Relay blogger. A great example of using the Japanese philosophy of constant improvement in a home situation.

William Dvorak presents The probability of immortality posted at The First Creation. An interesting article on ethics and longevity.

Mike Estep PhD presents Talent is Overrated posted at Mike Estep.com, saying, “The willingness to work and learn can cover a multitude of lack in other areas… including talent.” A helpful exploration of the fact that talent isn’t everything.

Suzie Cheel presents Abundance Thinking: Once More With Feeling posted at The Abundance Highway. Feeling is just as important (if not more important) than the actual words you use when focusing on prosperity.

Warren Wong presents Why You Should Start Saving Money Today posted at Personal Development for INTJs, saying, “Starting Saving Money Today! Why? It’s the difference between being broke and being a millionaire!” An important lesson (math included) in the power of compounding and just how important it is to get started with a savings program ASAP.

Christopher Church presents Action posted at Inspiration and Hope, saying, “Everything you want also wants you…but you must go get it!” It’s not just about sitting on a cushion or laying in bed… unless your goals are to sit on a cushion or lay in bed.

steve bentham presents Success close to home posted at inspiration, motivation, goal achievement, success, personal development. A great reminder that it’s probably not “out there”… start from where you are.

Arun presents Practicing For Lifetime Awesomeness posted at Arun is Bringing You…Your Daily Remedy, saying, “Create a better life by practicing living life awesomely!” Never mind personal development… personal awesomeness sounds much more appealing!

Ted Reimers presents How to Prepare for College posted at CampusGrotto. Sound advice for the soon to be college freshman.

Conan Stevens presents Why I Quit My Business And Moved To Thailand posted at Conan Stevens Online, saying, “Self help. Yep, I had to help myself, in fact I had to do a lot more to make my life work… I had to pack up move to a new country with better prospects and start again.” An interesting story on making the changes that are necessary for our personal growth and happiness.

Matthew Paulson presents Jump Starting Your Career: Six People You Need to Know At Work posted at FinanceIsPersonal.com. Some of them may surprise you!

Chris presents Mental Health Issues That Can Impact Your Social Success posted at How to have more social success. A fascinating look at some of the real life issues that prevent some people from becoming the social butterflies they think they “should” be (there’s that word again.) The advice in the last paragraph is key.

Maria Gajewski presents 10 Ways to Stay Mentally Nimble posted at Never the Same River Twice, saying, “This post describes ways that readers can stay mentally nimble and better able to deal with change.” Lots of great suggestions. Meditation is still my personal favorite.

Praveen presents Resetting posted at Tao of Simplicity. A couple of good tips on getting back to center when you start feeling overwhelmed.

Andreas Engvig presents Apes, Speedy Learners, and new Brain Fitness Channel posted at SharpBrains, saying, “Personal development for apes…” Wow… the ape in the video this post includes just may be smarter than I am!

Raymond David Salas presents The Power of Fun and Play posted at ZenChill.com Power Tools Blog. It’s all about the joy… because without that, we’ve got nothing! So go have some fun, dammit!

Ellesse presents Are You Getting The Same Results No Matter How Hard You Try? posted at Goal Setting College. This article explains why, and what you can do about it.

That’s it for this week. Next week’s carnival will be hosted by Amit at The Power of Choice. Submit your article using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.
