Do What Now?

“It is easier to act yourself into a better way of feeling than to feel yourself into a better way of action.” - O.H. Mowrer [source: Getting Things Done - The Art of Stress Free Productivity by David Allen1]

I’ve always loved the above quote. I’ve also heard it put this way:

“It’s easier to act yourself into better thinking than to think yourself into better action.”

When people who practice working with the Law of Attraction try to separate their action from their thinking and feeling, they are doing themselves a disservice, and missing out on fantastic opportunities to put the concept work for them.

While our actions are preceded by our thinking, much of that thinking is beneath our consciousness. (see “Attracting All” by Joe Vitale for more on this)

But if we can’t act without some kind of thought preceding the action, what can we do to take action to improve our thinking and feeling, if we need our thinking and feeling to cause us to act? Sounds like a bit of a conundrum, but it isn’t.

Just keep the conscious thoughts, and the actions that you take, simple.

The one that’s helped me the most is straight out of Success Though a Positive Mental Attitude2:

“Do It Now!”

Short, simple, and to the point. No time for my subconscious mind to argue.

Even if I’m starting to spiral into a depression, if I can catch it early enough and Do It Now, the feelings will usually improve as I start to take action.

But do what now?

Look around you.

Is there junk next to your computer that needs to be put away?
Clean it up Now.

How’s the rest of the room looking? Anything out of place?
Put it away Now.

Have you showered today?
Go wash up Now.

Brushed your teeth?
Scrub those puppies Now.

Can you see outside? Is the sun shining?
Go for a walk Now.

And so on, and so on…

It doesn’t matter that you don’t want to.

Do It Now.

Doing any of these things when you are starting to go down that road of negative thinking will usually help to bring you back. Don’t wait, don’t think any further. Just take action, and you’ll feel your thinking clearing, and your feelings improving.

Whether it’s because you are raising your vibration, or simply getting your blood pumping, or allowing your mind to focus on something other than that which is bringing you down, the bottom line is that it works.

As long as you remember to, and are willing to, Do It Now.
