If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you may have noticed that I recently added a graphic at the end of each article:

These links are through a service called PayPerPost.

When I first heard about bloggers getting paid to write about products and services, I wasn’t too sure about it. My main concerns centered around transparency and honesty: I wasn’t about to write about how much I love a particular product or service when I either 1.) had never used it, or 2.) I really didn’t love it.

When an advertiser requests an article to be written for them via PayPerPost, they can request the article to be either positive, negative, or neutral: neutral meaning either positive or negative. That solved my honesty problem - if an individual or organization required the article to be positive, and I couldn’t stand behind it myself, I could simply reject it (I’ve already done this once.)

When it comes to transparency, PayPerPost requires that bloggers let their readers know that they have financial ties to the organization they are writing about. They are pretty serious about word of mouth ethics.

It’s pretty easy to get an account up and running - sign up, submit your blog, and it will be reviewed for suitability. Once it’s accepted, you can start accepting offers.

If you are new to the system and don’t have a high traffic blog, don’t expect to make hundreds of dollars doing this. Pricing ranges from $5 up to $235 (as of this writing). But those high dollar amounts are reserved for blogs with high Google PageRanks and Alexa Scores. And if your blog is is outside of the mainstream, you may have trouble finding offers that match up to your topics.

Of course, if you blog about personal development (like me), you could always start off by reviewing one of my posts using the link at the end of this article. :)

Overall, while not a source of income for me yet, I’m really enjoying my PayPerPost membership. I’d like to see more offers that I can accept for this blog, but that should come in time, as readership grows.

What do you think about this? If you are a blogger, do you accept these kind of writing gigs? And as a reader, how do you feel about them?
