My Opi (Finally!)
I never thought the day would come… but I’ve finally been able to sit down and answer Terry Starbucker’s tag.
April started this one – she called it the “Opi”, based on the Greek word “opisoâ€, which loosely means “Future You.”
So here goes:
My Future Self
I’m still blogging regularly. My books are doing well in sales, and people and organizations have started asking me to do speaking engagements. I’m still no great orator, but I do get by better than I could in the past.
Tracy and I have moved to a quiet, comfortable home by the water. We are living in an area where it stays cool and rains frequently, the Northwest US most likely. Our dog probably loves it more than we do… she can finally run free by the water and through the trees like she is meant to.
We are financially independent, living off of our investments, blog income, and book sales, which allows us to spend our days together, either at home with me writing and her doing her thing, or out and about just taking in the beauty and wonder of life. We are truly living our dream, together.

Short and sweet, but powerful. Getting a picture in our minds of what we want and where we want to be points us in the right direction – but we need to take action if we want to get there.
I’d highly suggest you try this exercise, either publicly on your blog, in the comments, or privately. The benefit of knowing where you are going, even if you don’t yet know how you will get there (book sales? investments???) will bring you both a sense of peace and determination that you may have never had before.

This may be an old meme, but let’s see… Karen, Rick, Nneka, Mike, and Tina – would you like to tell us about your “Opie?”

Okay Lyman, you’ve goaded me into it. I’ll blog this in the next few days.

Lyman, I never doubted you would eventually get to this one! And I really like your Opi – not a whole lot different than mine these days, actually. Even the NW US part. Freaky.
BTW, I like the new design too – well done!
All the best!

Oooh, Lyman! It may take some thought but this one is a wonderful challenge….
if only to “get it out there and tell somebody!”
Thank you! I will enjoy this.

Writing it down certainly makes the dream even more powerful. Having your preferred future written down on paper seems to make everything more possible. Even though this is the first time I’ve heard of the Opi concept, there’s been many a time when I would sit in front of my computer and write down all the things I wish in life as if they are already there. It’s a very gratifying activity.

@April – Thanks for starting it up! Betcha didn’t think this was still floating around out there.
And thanks for your kind words about the design – it’s a theme by Chris Pearson that I’m having a lot of fun with.
@Mike – Cool! I’m looking forward to it.
@Terry – I’m not sure why, but I just couldn’t let this one go. And I’m glad that I didn’t. Hope to see you in the Pacific Northwest some day! And thank you too for the compliment on the blog.
@Karen – I figured you’d like this one.
Looking forward to yours as well.
@jen_chan – I was pretty amazed at the power I felt as it was coming together. This is one of those personal development/goal setting exercises that I read/heard about a lot, and practiced a little. And then to throw it out in public like this… wow, talk about exhilarating!

I’ve always believed happiness is an inside job, so my vision has always been the kind of person I wanted to become. It’s worked for me…success took care of itself. I’ve done a lot of traveling and my husband and I are now financially independent and live in a place we love. It’s been a fun trip.

Work on the inside, and the outside will take care of itself… thanks for being living proof of that, Jean!
