“Courage is not the absence of fear but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear. The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all.” — Ambrose Redmoon

If your fears are holding you back from fully enjoying your life, procrastination is stopping you from achieving your goals, and you are tired of spinning your wheels and don’t know how to break that cycle - Lorraine Cohen may have the answer for you.

A few days ago, my good friend Lorraine sent me a copy of her Transform Your Fear into Power program and asked me to write a few words on it.

In this program, Lorraine really gets to the heart of what causes our fears, and more importantly, what we can do about them.

Before I learned healthier ways of dealing with my emotions, I tried to manage my fear the same way many people do - I’d squash it, hide it, repress it, and drown it in addictions. What, me afraid? I’m a man, dammit! I’m not going to have any fear.

As human beings, fear is a natural, healthy emotion. If you are standing in front of an oncoming bus, and you have no fear… well, let’s just say that it was nice knowing you!

In Transform Your Fear Into Power, Lorraine teaches us not only how to recognize our fear for what it is, but how to take that fear, look at it rationally, and even use it to our advantage.

She reminds us that it’s our interpretation of the situations that we are in, our self-talk, that the fear comes from, not the situation itself. Once again with the bus analogy… if we didn’t interpret it as “I’m gonna get squashed!”, our fear wouldn’t motivate us to get out of the way!

Another of my personal favorite parts of the program was the answer to the question:

What if you have a fear of success combined with a fear of failure?

I know that I’ve often had a strange combination of the two, and many of the techniques that Lorraine outlines in the program are excellent ways to deal with these.

She also answers a question that I think many people worry about:

How do you know the difference between being held back by fear, and something just not feeling right?

This program consists of an mp3 audio, a pdf transcript of that audio, and a workbook (also in pdf format) that outlines 10 specific exercises that you can use to begin to Transform Your Fear Into Power. And there’s even a bunch of bonuses available to you when you purchase the program!

As for credentials, Lorraine’s got ‘em… with more than 25 years of experience in the fields of life and business coaching, psychological and spiritual counseling, and sales, she is someone who knows what she’s talking about.

Thank you, Lorraine, for sending me a copy of the program, and for taking the time to create Transform Your Fear Into Power to teach others how to take their fears, transform them, and create their better lives.

  1. Sounds like a good program, but I decided long ago that I’d rather be scared than depressed. That’s one reason I started studying and teaching Transforming Stress Into Personal Power. Please let us know how the program works out in your life. :)

  2. Actually, Jean, I didn’t think I had to choose between the two. :) I’ll take another option, please… how about Joy!

  3. Feel the fear and do it anyways! Thanks for the wisdom, Brad

  4. Lyman,
“Actually, Jean, I didn’t think I had to choose between the two. :) I’ll take another option, please… how about Joy!” Cheerful Monk is “Devoted to happiness as a spiritual practice”, so I’m all for joy. But “I’d rather be scared than depressed/bored,” was my mantra when I was working tackling challenging problems that no one else wanted to touch. I was always smiling with joy when I said it, and I was usually skipping down the hallway with joy at work. So another version of my mantra would be “Fear is a small price to pay for having fun.”

  5. [...] (If you didn’t happen to catch it, be sure to check out my thoughts on Lorraine’s Transform Your Fear Into Power program.) [...]

  6. Jean,

Ahhh… I got it. :) That’s really cool. Thanks for the explanation!

  7. Amen to that one, Brad. Thank *you*. :)

  8. There’s nothing to be gained from wallowing in fear. It’s the same with drowning yourself in self-pity. You get stuck in a hopeless pit from which you only have your own pathetic self as your companion. Harsh as these words may be, that’s the way I regard cowardliness. There’s nothing wrong with having fears but not confronting them is basically limiting yourself to all the wonderful things you could achieve in life.

  9. i just want to say a big up to you and that quote from Ambrose. thats just a simple but mihgty quote.
