Another Procrastination “Trick”
(2)
There are quite a few methods out there to combat procrastination, a couple of which I’ve mentioned on this blog.
There’s breaking down your big stuff into smaller, manageable tasks.
There’s committing to working on something you’ve been avoiding for at least 15 minutes.
But how about rooting out procrastination at the source?
Vickie from Contemplate This reminded me via her Boundless Living Challenge blog of the free EFT videos offered by Magnus of Tapping.com, specifically one that deals with procrastination.
Even more than the EFT itself, a line from the video really struck me:
“We are avoiding the way we think that we are going to feel when we are doing something or when we’ve completed it.”
I’ve just been fascinated by that statement ever since hearing it. Probably because it’s so damn true.
If we really break it down: it’s not the way we are going to feel - it’s the way we think we are going to feel.
We may know on a rational level that doing those dishes (there they are again!), or writing that letter, or responding to that email, or calling that client, will actually make us feel better.
But at some level, somewhere, we think that doing it will be too painful, or that the end result won’t be what we expected.
We often try to convince ourselves that the task won’t be too bad, that if we’d just do it we’d feel so much better, and try to remember all of the times in our lives when we’ve done similar things and felt great afterwards.
But when the conscious mind tries to wage a direct battle against the subconscious - the subconscious will always win.
Which is why we need a way to convince the subconscious to go along with our rational thoughts.
EFT is a great way to do this - my personal favorite, but there are other ways.
Whatever your method of choice, just remember that it’s always better to go after the cause rather than what may just be a symptom.

Great post.
I think procastination is how we associate an event with a picture or a sound in our minds. If we anchor something with an unpleasant output, we won’t do the task, and we will experiment what we call laziness, or procastination. A solution might be doing some shifting with the aim to change this negative anchor. My 2 cents.
Peace,

Hi
Procrastination is one habit we must overcome if we want to improve our lives. The problem with procrastination is that it gives us the satisfaction of having taken a bold step by deciding to do something. But unfortunately we keep postponing it which is as bad as not doing it.Is it another way of our mind to escape the feelings of guilt in not addressing an issue?
