I got home tonight to hear some sad news.
Randy Pausch, who became quite the phenomenon with his Last Lecture, died today.
Never mind the sheerly amazing content of his lecture – this man took what would have caused many to quit and used it to bring both his life, and the lives of countless others, to a higher level.
Want to know how to create your better life?
- Watch Randy’s Last Lecture.
- Every time you feel sorry for yourself, think about Randy’s Last Lecture.
- Goto 1.
My personal favorite line from his talk?
“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something, because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough; they’re there to stop the other people.”
Thank you, Randy, for all that you did, for so many people, with your last days.
And for inspiring me to continue to work my way through some brick walls of my own.
Please note – there’s also a captioned version of his lecture available, as well as a PDF transcript.

Randy’ spirit is now rid of its form and is free to fly for all eternity. What a wonderful example he is to all of us. He will inspire for centuries to come.
