This one may sound like the most obvious of the four parts of Tony Robbins’ Ultimate Success Formula, but because of human beings’ uncanny ability to delude themselves, it’s also the one that can often be our downfall.
It’s noticing if what we are doing is working or not.
And by working, we mean is it bringing us closer to the objective we set in Step One.
Sometimes it’s just ego – we don’t want to admit that the super duper plan we are working just isn’t (working), so we keep on beating our heads against the wall, when maybe all we have to do is open a door.
Sometimes it’s that we don’t see another alternative, and “at least we’re doing something!”
Sometimes it’s because we don’t want to do the hard thing, so we keep on trying “miracle cures” or “snake oil” that isn’t getting us anywhere.
Whatever the reason…
If it isn’t getting you what you want, or where you want to be…
STOP IT!
Take an honest look at the results you are getting in your life so far.
Is what you are doing (or not doing) getting you closer to or further away from your desired outcome?
That’s all this step consists of.
Honest Awareness.
Try it… you may be happy with the results.

Yeah! After 3 years of business school I realized that it would probably be a good idea to try something else, since I wasn’t doing so well and didn’t really like it either.
I’m really happy I changed. I think it was some Robbins that made me realize that, yes, “the results I was getting” were not the ones I wanted, but I was just trying the same thing over and over again…hard and harder. Not good.
When you don’t get the results that you want, your emotions will be the indicator of you going in the wrong way. The intuition and being honest with oneself in their descion making is key.
Great post.

Thanks for this post. I think we can extend this idea to noticing how we’re feeling about our situation. Sometimes we try to convince ourselves that what we’re doing in life — perhaps in our careers — is “the right thing” even if instinctively it feels wrong. Telling the truth to ourselves, it seems, means acknowledging these instincts rather than trying to ignore them or reason them away.
Honesty itself is a teacher that has been known convince people they move moutains. For those who find themselves staring into the mirror, its just scratching the surface. This process of rediscovering honesty actually strengthens those willing to take it. Every moment, each person is severely tested. You decide what to acknowledge and decide unconsciously whether and to what degree you will raise awareness. It all relates to your level of self-acceptance. Love isunwavering and unconditional. When will you embrace it?
