Back in junior high I received a greeting card that could always bring a smile to my face. It had some deep and profound wisdom from one of the great sage philosophers of the time. That would be Ziggy, a round-faced, pessimistic cartoon character. (Not sure who else you thought it to be, it was the 70’s and I was only 12 after all!)
The front of the card said…
It’s easy to grin
When the world lets you win
And you don’t have a reason to frown…
(Open card here)
But the person worthwhile
Is the one who will smile
When his sandwich falls Jelly-side down.
Just the visual of the perfect open-faced peanut butter and jelly sandwich landing on the floor “jelly-side down” would make my 12-year-old self just laugh and laugh.
Which of course, brings me to my point.
If you have been watching the news, studying the stock market, watching the equity drop in real estate and just listening to all that is happening throughout the world, it would seem that right now everything is in a state of “jelly side down”. I mean, by damn, is the sky really falling or is that just what the media would have us believe? None of us would have purposely co-created any of these messes. And not a one of us planned on dropping that perfect peanut butter sandwich. What happened?
Just Life, and Life can be unpredictable.
The only thing that we know for sure is that things will change, always have before and always will again. And again. And again.
Life is what it is but it will change, and in the words of many of the wise….
“This too, shall pass”.
So we can cry, get depressed and carry on (yes, I have a lot of experience there, been there, done that, no fun and totally ineffective too!) or we can slap a smile back on our face, count the blessings that we do have, look at the bright side and create a better life.
No use in crying over jelly already on the floor. Clean up your thoughts and vibrations and move on.
