The real “Law of Attraction” is in the “Law of Action.”
People call me “The Parking Lot Wizard.”
Actually, no one has ever called me that once in my entire life. However, many people (and by many I mean less than a dozen) are aware of my uncanny ability to always score awesome parking spots any time I want them (which is basically every time – why wouldn’t you want a great parking spot?)
I simply know I will get a great spot right up by the front, and I drive exactly to where I want to be, and there it is. If I don’t see it right away, I look harder or go once around, assuming I simply haven’t spotted it yet. I never think it isn’t there. Why wouldn’t it be there? It’s my awesome parking spot right up front. Of course it’s there! It never takes more than one loop around for someone to back out of the front spot, or whatever it is that’s going to happen to reveal my wonderful space. I never have to do crazy things to force it, like hold up a whole line of cars by sitting with my blinker on waiting for someone to walk to their car. (I hate that and always avoid that row on my way to my killer space, which infuriates blinker guy or gal by the way.)
In the early days, my skeptical friends bombarded me with phrases like, “It’s Christmas Eve! You will never find a spot up here” or “Why didn’t you take that one back there where we first came in?” Now they all know that when they are with me, we park well. Surprisingly, they all say that this never works when they’re not with me. So I asked myself, “Why am I so great at getting parking spaces?”
Then I asked myself, “Why not money instead of parking spaces?” That didn’t make me feel as special so I went back to the first question.
And then it hit me! Maybe I was looking at this law of attraction thing all wrong. I had always believed that if I put energy out into the universe focused specifically on what I wanted (like I visualized myself parking close to the Wal-Mart entrance) then I would “attract” it to me. So for a long time I assumed the parking spots were sort of being “granted” to me from the universe due to my willingness to put the energy “out there.” Now I realized that because of this basic belief, I was behaving in a particular way – always driving right to the front of parking lots – actively seeking out open spots – never settling for less. True, I was doing these things because I believed they would yield the results I desired, but it was the actions that actually produced the desired results.
My friends who say they never get good parking spots never truly believe there are good spots available and their actions support that basic premise. They park far away, or don’t bother to loop around once with confidence, or settle for holding up the line with their blinker on, while they wait for a painfully slow patron.
You can’t find what you aren’t looking for, and you never look for what you don’t believe is there.
So if it’s true for parking spaces maybe I’m ready to take my “law of attraction” training wheels off and cross apply this to other areas. I thought I was throwing out positive wealth energy and happiness energy and health and fitness energy, but then I pretty much just sat back and waited for the universe to bestow my rewards like so many great parking spaces. Perhaps I have been sitting here with my blinker on waiting for something to open up, and not actively looking for that sweet spot. Maybe I didn’t really believe it was there.

I have amazing ‘parking karma’ as well – and people are often surprised at how well it works.
Reminds me of a decade ago when an ex-gf and I were going to the Little Italy part of San Francisco on a summer Saturday night… and we were going to a restaurant right in the heart of Columbus Ave (busiest street).
As we were about 10 mins away from our final destination, I casually asked her in the car “So where do you want to park?” She looked at me incredulously, and said, “Directly across from the Mona Lisa” (the restaurant we were going to).
“Okay.”
So we get to the Mona Lisa, and low and behold there was no parking spot. We circle around for about five minutes (that’s how long it takes to get around even a single block during this time in this area), and we find parking.
As we’re getting out of the car, I ask her, “Where was it you said you wanted to park?”
Exactly perpendicular to our car, and across the street, was our intended restaurant.
She never doubted me again

I am a commuter since I don’t have a car here in the Philippines. I’d always take the cab to anywhere in Manila as it’s convenient to do so. And I always get the right kind of ride. By right I mean the type that always takes me on time to where I want to get at a compressed allowance of time. Most usually I get the good ones unlike when I haven’t known about the law of attraction.
I love hearing about the law of attraction at work in everyday events like parking and commuting. Some might dismiss it as trivial, but when I really break down the steps (what I believe, what I do, and what the result ends up being) of something like commonplace, I understand the concept so much better. I know the first step is the belief, and for all the more “significant” things (although a Wal-mart parking spot on Christmas Eve …. ) I am still working on that part, but now I really clearly understand how it works. Who knew parking could be so enlightening?
