3 Things You Must Realize When the Law of Attraction Fails

Written by Alexis Dawes

Imagine you’re playing catch with a friend.

You throw the ball to your friend. She misses the catch. She picks the ball up, and throws it back to you.

Just as you toss it out again, a thought flashes in your mind… “What if she misses that catch again!”

So you start screaming and running frantically down the field, in an attempt to intercept the ball and catch it for her.

The ball falls to the ground. And your friend wonders out loud, “Why’d you do that? I could’ve caught the ball.”

It sounds like a silly scenario. I mean who would do something like that?

Yet as silly as it sounds, it’s a story line that’s frequently played out among budding Law of Attraction practitioners.

1) Worry will wash away the wonderfulness.

If you want something and you go about attempting to attract it, you cannot constantly worry whether you’ll get it or not.

All you have to do is toss the ball out and allow the Universe to catch it.

Worrisome thoughts intercept the ball. It stops the game from being played.

So instead of stressing about what’s going to happen, close your eyes for a few minutes each morning to figure out how you can help the Universe. Ask what role you can play in the creation process.

And when you receive an answer (because you will) act on it.

2) Setbacks are often a prerequisite for success.

I always knew that I wanted to write for a living. When I was younger I used to imagine what my life would be like as a famous author.

During my second semester in college I began writing for one of the college papers. I thought for sure that I was on my way to a Pulitzer Prize.

Then one after the other, my articles started getting rejected.

Soon after that I didn’t have enough money to continue going to university. It looked like my writing career was over and I was crushed.

I spent my days working as a temp. My evenings walking around bookstores and libraries.

On one particular bookstore visit I stumbled upon a brand new magazine. And I remembered reading somewhere that new writers should pitch their ideas to new magazines because often the magazine hasn’t built up a stable of freelance writers yet.

So I wrote a query letter to the magazine’s editor. And I got it! I ended up writing several articles for that magazine.

I haven’t won the Pulitzer Prize. But I do make a fantastic living as a writer.

And if it wasn’t for that early failure – including not being able to return to the university – I doubt I’d be happily self-employed right now.

So today I rarely view a failure as a failure.

What we perceive as a failure is almost always just a necessary course correction.

The road to attracting what we want rarely looks like what we think it should. There are twists and turns that we cannot imagine.

A setback does not mean what you want isn’t coming.

It’s just a plain vanilla obstacle in the road to success.

3) You didn’t really want what you thought you wanted.

Many years ago I wanted a great big house.

I cut out pictures of big homes. I went house shopping in neighborhoods where I wanted to live. I imagined what it would be like to come around that winding driveway.

Mingled in with those fantastic thoughts were concerns about cleaning the house. I frequently imagined robbers breaking in while I was at home.

And what would happen if I suddenly lost all of my clients and couldn’t afford the electric bill or the mortgage???

As much as I said I wanted the big house, I didn’t really want the big house.

So when my deadline for earning the down payment money came and went, I breathed a big “WHEW” of relief.

If what you’re attempting to attract doesn’t bring you 100% pure joy, it may not manifest for you.

It’s important that you take the time to consider what you really want and why you want it.

Make sure that your intentions are true to your own heart, and that you’re not just trying to keep up with the popular crowd.

True wants are always rewarded.

I’ve been working on my business for 4 years. It started out good. I have about 60 MP3’s on success and attraction in my iPod. Well, now I’m working full time again, my business has gone to almost zero, despite the fact that I’m doubling my advertising spending. I am not thinking all of this LOA is a bunch of crepe. Actually, the best part of LOA is selling books and tapes on it. Because I’ve spent years and years doing everything it says to do and it does not work. Plain and simple.

The law is far more complex than ‘think of what you want and you will get it’. And im glad it is! Everyone wants a million dollars and to retire. If the law is governed by devine forces, it is not likely to gear itself to fail society. If you want something really bad, work hard to get it… Be determined. Be focussed. To much blind faith is placed in the LOA as a magic cure all.
