There are some alternatives to smoking that have proven effective.

    • Satisfy the oral fixation: Research has shown that smoking goes beyond the nicotine addiction. It also satisfies and oral fixation. You can replace that with sugarless chewing gum. Chewing gum still gives you something to do with your mouth. It balances the acidity in your mouth and cleanses your breath, to boot. You can also try flavored toothpicks. These also give your some activity to keep your mouth busy. You can get flavored toothpicks specifically designed to help you curb your craving for cigarettes.

  • Physical Activity: Exercise can work wonders when it comes to helping you get your mind off of “needing a smoke.” Running is a favorite. Running can also help strengthen your lungs which may have weakened due to smoking. Yoga is another favorite activity to get your help you de-stress and get your mind off of smoking. You can pick whatever physical activity sounds motivating. Many forms of physical activity release endorphins that elevate your mood, which goes a long way in reducing the hold of cigarettes on your psyche
  • Consider switching to electronic cigarettes. You can do this as part of a reduction plan, or as a long term alternative to tobacco cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes do not use tobacco, and you can regulate the amount of nicotine, or even opt to have no nicotine in your e-cig. You have a very wide range of options with electronic cigarettes. All E-cigarette smoker types will benefit from reducing the amount of nicotine, and completely eliminating the tobacco. You can find more info by searching on google for electronic cigarette review websites.

Quitting smoking can be challenging, but there are enough alternatives available that you can find one that will help you to make the transition from smoker to non-smoker. You can find a host of support groups and online support forums, as well as helpful online resources, like http://www.e-cigarette.net, where you can read reviews.
